Curriculum
At Gilmore Prep, we provide a project-based, hands on early childhood education to families in our community and surrounding areas.
When a child is enrolled, he/she is given a basic assessment. This assessment gives the teachers some background knowledge about the student’s strengths and areas of opportunity. Each student participates in at least 3 formal assessments during the school year to track their progress, as well as a variety of informal assessments.
Preschool is a fun time when children are beginning to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. Much of this learning takes place in our “Exploration Stations.” At certain times during each day, the children have an opportunity for free play, when they choose which station they want to spend some time in. The “Exploration Stations” include science, art, library, writing, cars/blocks, big and little Legos, dramatic play, and various types of manipulatives.
Although our group is multi-age and some activities are done as a whole group, below is a breakdown of some specific skills that are addressed through our project work, and skills that the children will develop throughout the school year:
K3 Long Range Learning Goals
We're aware that a child this age may come into the program having mastered some or all of these skills. In this case, we move the child to the next level.
Language — Each child will:
Listen to stories daily
Begin to recognize upper and lowercase letters
Recognize and spell his/her first name
Pre-Writing — Each child will:
Begin to hold a pencil, marker, & crayon correctly
Make lines, circles, etc. with markers, pencils, & crayons
Begin to use scissors and glue correctly
Communication— Each child will:
Follow directions
Look at books and talk to classmates and teachers about the pictures
Begin to re-tell stories
Begin to act out stories
Learn to recite the pledge of allegiance
Begin to express his/her feelings
Math— Each child will:
Recognize numbers 1-10 (higher after these are mastered)
Recognize shapes & colors
Begin to recognize simple patterns
Personal/Social Development — Each child will:
Begin to learn how to resolve conflicts with classmates
Begin to learn how to interact with classmates
Begin to learn how to put on jackets and gloves/mittens
Begin to clean up and put materials away when it’s time

Paint with brushes and other materials
Communication— Each child will:
Follow directions
Look at books and talk to classmates and teachers about the pictures
Recite the pledge of allegiance
Begin to express his/her feelings
Ask questions about stories
Math— Each child will:
Recognize numbers 1-20 (higher after these are mastered)
Recognize 2D and 3D shapes & colors
Recognize simple patterns
Learn basic addition and subtraction
Personal/Social Development— Each child will:
Begin to learn how to resolve conflicts with classmates
Learn how to interact with classmates
Learn how to put on jackets and gloves/mittens
Clean up and put materials away when it’s time
Express his/her feelings
Transitional Kindergarten Program
Our Transitional Kindergarten program is designed for students whose birthday comes after the September 1st kindergarten deadline for enrollment in public schools during the applicable school year. In this program, all of the skills in or K4 program are enhanced/strengthened, and the students are more challenged while the teachers take them to the next level.

To register your child, please call (864) 655-5845 to schedule a tour. The necessary paperwork for enrollment can be given to you during the tour, or you can download the paperwork and bring it with you to the tour.
